Descrição
This is at the parking lot at Splash Pad Park
Cars frequently block the handicap access ramp between parking spaces 14 and 15.
Please make it more obvious that parking is not legal to park here. Cars should be ticketed, especially on Farmers Market Saturdays. It does block wheelchairs, baby carriages and more.
For years, this ramp has been regularly blocked. The Farmer's Market people used to place orange cones in front of this space to discourage parking. It's time for the city to make that this space is not legal for parking.

Thank you.

PWA:
Will this parking spot be repainted? Part of the problem is that the space is not clearly marked. I think that fewer people would park here if they understand that they were blocking access.

You may have already, but I'd email our OPD Problem Solving Officer, if you feel it's not being addressed.

CAMUTCD, Section 2D.45 includes the following section:
The International Symbol of Accessibility for the Handicapped (D9-6) sign may be used beneath General Service signs where paved ramps and rest room facilities accessible to, and usable by, the physically handicapped are provided.

Ken,
The manager at the Grand Lake Farmers Market used to placed cones there, at my request. Eventually, they stopped, but I'm sure that they would start again if asked.

Eileen,
I have not yet mailed OPD Problem Solving. I suspect that repainting the space will help the situation, but tickets may be necessary.

Before shopping this morning, I took a look and I think the problem is two-fold.
Number one: you have to prevent cars from parking where it's not permitted. Re-striping and/or posting "No Parking" signs on the pillars should be effective -- if the lot is policed on Saturdays.
Number two: When cars pull all the way forward to the right of the handicapped access space, the left front bumpers partially obstruct access. A curb stop set back a foot or two would be a workable solution.

I just talked to the Farmer's Market people about putting orange cones up. They will investigate it.
But you're right, the legally parked car blocks the ramp, as well as the illegally parked car.

Also, parking enforcement should be involved. I have discussed this with PWA before. Please put it back on your list.
