Deskripsyon

A historic produce terminal next to the railroad tracks in Providence was sold by the state of RI to Carpionato Corporation to renovate for a discount of $10 million dollars. Instead, the developer tore the building down and has left the ugly lot empty and unkempt, assumedly without repaying the $10,000,000 discount. Can we make sure Carpionato fixes thus blight on prime land, and/or reimburses the taxpayers?

Many of us who live nearby this have continued to notify the ciy about this lot - no reaction. When the developer appplied to the city of Providence to be allowed to "develop" (??) this space into a parking lot, some of us attended the hearing in April, and we spoke out about the shameful and deplorable conditions of the lot, full of papers, debris, junk, and all the rats those conditiions can attract. Unfortunately, the developers reaction has been to continue to leave the lot as is. Even just clearing out the weeds, removing the trash, and a good raking would be an improvement.

This area is the same as it has been since that promise-laden old produce terminal was destroyed by the "developer". It is now being used as an access for construction vehicles rebuilding I-95 at exit 22 (the RI "Viaduct" highway project). This is at a cost of $$$$ to the state of RI as further payment to The Carpionato Corporation for land use (why are we not surprised?).

Drive by, people - this issue is exactly the same. The Carpionato Corporation continues in contention for the I-195 land project in another part of the city (although it has lost ground on an initial proposal). I would demand that before they be considered for more tax-payers $$$$$$$$$$, they must meet thier original promises on Harris Avenue.

This issue is held open because of highway construction - the state now pays Carpionato Corporation $600,000 per year to use this previously unused lot (although it remains unkempt and very ugly).
