Hard to believe that the Northbrook speed humps are considered something to aspire to! In spite of rebuilding the one closest to North Hills Drive, the others are seriously malformed and too high.

All the speed bumps I encounter in the North Hills area are much more troublesome than the ones on Lake Boone Trail. I feel envious of my ITB neigbors who got the best speed bumps.

The operative word in your comment is "All". Why is our area becoming saturated with these abortions? As to the troublesome nature, the City's design obviously cannot be accurately produced with asphalt. I have pointed this out numerous times to the responsible staff, but they refuse to discuss it.

The ones on Wimbledon are the best yet! Wide and low, they wont make your bumper or crossmembers scrape!

No one from the city did a thing. What a waste of taxpayer to have speed humps incorrectly constructed. People still have to slow down to 10-15mph instead of 25 like the sign says.

If people drove the posted speed limit we wouldn't have these issues at all. Take.... SIX FORKS RD for instance. 35mph from Sandy Forks through I-440? Uhm, how about 50 mph all day long. I shadowed a school bus once at 45 through a school zone no less! The RPD cruisers who sit out front of the Lutheran Church and shoot radar on the weekday evenings only deter those who travel at night. The day time crowd are real the lawless ones....

Are you suggesting speed humps on Six Forks Road? The issue here is that the humps the city has been installing are counter-productive, beyond their own guidelines, and a waste of our tax dollars.

Please leave the speed bumps as is, and slow down to 10 or 15 mph. That won't add more than a few seconds to your commute and it punishes the ones that were cruising through at 40+ (well above the posted speed limit)

Just for the record, I never use Rowan, so I don't care how fast anyone goes over those humps. The point is that the bumpkins who have these built should not be allowed to post an advised 25mph speed where they can't make the humps usable at that speed. It is not safe for drivers who are in the area, and reflects poorly on our city. Show a little common sense!

The speed limit is 25 mph, not 10 mph. No one should have to deive that slow because of poor work done by the city.
Rowan is a residential street that collects cars from many residential streets. It's very incomvenient to have slow to 10 mph five times in a row. They were poorly constructed by the city, then someone from the city street dept made it bumpier by grinding the tops off.

The speed limit along Rowan between Six Forks and Compton is 35 MPH except in the school zone at the start and end of school when it is 25 MPH. Perhaps the folks that added the humps should have maybe tried lowering the street's speed limit to 25 first and studied how that worked before the expense of building humps.

I recently drove the length of Rowan, and these humps are truly bad, worse than the ones on Northbrook. The city's latest drawings for new victim streets show a different asphalt mix and hump profile. Hopefully the old humps will be renewed to this spec if it proves to be an improvement. The local example is to be Cranbrook.

Since the reply promised in July has not been forthcoming, I would advise anyone who is concerned about the campaign by the City of Raleigh to fill the North Hills area with traffic impediments to go to the Midtown CAC meetings or contact the city council directly. The council seems to be laboring under the false assumption that the citizens are happy with speed humps.

The traffic calming person, T. Fiorello, and our new Council Rep. are on the agenda for the Midtown CAC meeting on Monday, 3 March in Eastgate Park. Anyone interested in the speed hump issues in North Hills should be treated to quite a show.

Why doesn't the city just remove them? They are wrecking the suspension on our cars.. The police need to be present and do their jobs,

Here is an update (although not from the City). The March 3 Midtown CAC meeting was canceled due to weather. Presumably, the same agenda will apply at the May 12 meeting. The ill-advised 4-way stop at North Hills and Pamlico should also be fodder for discussion.

This is the main road into our neighborhood. As Bethany698 points out, these are putting unnecessary wear and tear on our vehicles.

Since the City refuses to do anything, I advise any rational citizens who see this to attend the next Midtown CAC meeting (July) to apply pressure locally.

In the last couple of traffic calming projects we have had some specification issues with the contractor. We are working through this right now and will be tightening up on the specifications to make the installation of speed control devices more consistent going forward. Please remember the intent is actually to slow traffic considerably. Typical bureaucratic response. Took a year to respond and then did not address our specific complaints. Evidently the City will not take action to correct its past mistakes, but is more than happy to issue a vague promise to do better in the future.

If the city's goal is to slow traffic, why not lower the speed limit and enforce it instead of imposing severe inconvenience and potential auto damage on us law abiding neighbors?
