Liquid Amber Street Tree: two or three limbs on 3 trees are blocking the existing street lights from illuminating sidewalks. MUGGINGS: people returning to their cars parked on Wellington after dining at the restaurants on Park Blvd near Wellington (Glenview). Deep shadows cast by tree limbs create hiding spots. Please please address. Thank you.
This is really a non-issue. The picture is very misleading, making it appear that the tree limbs are much closer to the light than they actually are. Part of the area is dark because there are not enough street lights, as the lights along Wellington are over a block apart. The tree provides welcome shade, especially on hot summer days.
Yes, shade is welcome! I see the shadows directly below the light at night. Tree needs two limbs pruned (the ones that hang over the street) so shade remains / remove the night shadows below. Due to sun's angle in summer, shade will remain for parked cars in the daytime, but will strike a balance for night-safety. Agreed that full foliage is lovely, but ... right at that immediate light the sidewalk & street are dark. This is the light near Park Blvd.
With Oakland it's all a nothing. i know from experience that if you ask for a branch to be trimmed, they'll more than likely chop down the whole tree. From the city's point of view, they would rather have the one-time expense to remove a tree than the ongoing expense of maintaining it. Be careful what you ask for. Don't be surprised if the offending tree is suddenly gone.
Oh dear! I've seen City of Berkeley go down the street efficiently trimming off the branches that get into wires, block signs etc.. and that was an inspiration for the simplicity of the work needed. If City of Oak takes out the whole tree, they ultimately waste their resources and degrade quality of life for residents/environment (trees => provide Oxygen/clean CO2..beautiful to have..etc.) ANyway, thanks for the insight into what happens. Sad to hear it. Really just a couple of limbs are in the way of letting light onto ground directly below the light (sidewalk/street) but continue to shade homes and filter sunlight elsewhere.
"thanks for the insight into what happens" - ??? - Really? Do you believe everything you read? see on TV? hear on the radio? Has anyone done 'due diligence' in confirming what they read - or what they type?
