I believe that you are referring to 1244 Forest Road. The owner of this house, who is a professor at SCSU and the President of the New Haven Board of Education, also neglects to shovel his sidewalk in the winter, which makes it very dangerous to travel on that side of Forest Road.

It sounds like everyone from the owner of the property to the person who reported this thinks the government should be in charge of everything. If this was my neighborhood I might just carry some clippers and some poison ivy killer over and do it myself.

What a jerk, despite his three advanced" degrees? How can this person be head of the New Haven Board of Education? What kind of example is he for the students of this town?

Martin, it is not that simple. poison Ivy is very difficult to handle if one is severely allergic, and spraying chemicals on someone's yard without their permission is not ethical. The neighbors did not contact the government first, but instead started a dialogue with the property owner to try and find a solution. Being a vigilante would only create distrust. The goal is a neighborhood that works together, not against each other.

Sorry, in my neighborhood when people dont trim it gets done for them by neighbors.

I agree that In usual cases, neighborly trimming would work. The poison ivy is growing within a giant hedge to the point that the two are inseperable. Trimming off the most offending ivy is a good short term solution, and this has been done for many years, but to get at the whole problem, some serious work has to be done because the roots are intertwined with the hedge. The hedge acts as a sound and visual buffer between the owner's house and busy Forrest road and is not easily replaced. Us neighbors are willing to help with solving the problem, but the home owner does not see it as a problem, therefore the need for other public pressure.

There is a poison ivy killerthat is sprayed on the leaves from close up. No spraying from afar that might contact neighboring properties. It will kill the poison ivy without hurting the hedge. Just takes a tripto Lowe's or Home Depot.

I'm going to close this issue, since the property owner seems to have finally been shamed into acting. Thanks all for helping push this.
