This problem is being addressed with the owner of the property, who actually lives on Plum Lane. The property is outside the Township Ordinance on abandoned property because it is privately owned. The lot is also to small to rebuild if the structure is torn down. It is better for all involved to reach an agreement on the property rather than leave it to the court system. Talks with the owner have gone well and, hopefully, an agreement on the property will be reached soon.
In the meanwhile, the owner has agreed to secure the building and install temporary fencing,

This is absolutely ridiculous. If privately held homes fall outside Township Ordinance than what falls within scope? The owner does not live on Plum Lane - he lives in Holmdel but not on Plum Lane. He keeps the house there to cover up the trailers and all the other JUNK he has back there! While we are at it, can someone explain to me why we have a commercial business (his) operating on the block?? There are large trucks coming and going all the time.

He has not secured the property, he had someone board it up with some wood planks. This is absolutely disgraceful and I’m sure it would never be allowed in another part of town!

The ordinance is directed at foreclosures and requires the bank to register the property as abandoned. It is not directed at privately owned properties when we already know who is responsible for the property. The owner, who I believe lives next door, has agreed to renovate the property. The business has been grandfathered and is allowed to operate.
The object is to reach an agreement good for all sides, not get involved with the court system, which will only stretch out the solution. This is how we handle all problems of this nature regardless of what part of town they are located.
