Description

Monday through Friday, we have a hazardous traffic condition when exiting Messina Drive onto Pond Street during the hours of 4:30PM-6:30PM.

It is nearly impossible to get a break in the traffic during this time, especially from the traffic going westbound from the Granite Street direction. If you want to make a left turn onto Pond from Messina, it requires that the westbound traffic yield to you, and then you still have to get an opening from the eastbound traffic. That can be treacherous most of the time.
Additionally, there is an apartment complex directly across the street from Messina Drive that is faced with the same dilemma trying to exit onto Pond Street at this time. They create another variable of danger for those trying to exit left from Messina Dr to go east on Pond.

This traffic condition forces most drivers with a “safer mindset” to try to turn right out of Messina Drive. Once they have finally entered onto Pond Street in the opposite direction desired, they travel approximately 0.5-1.5 miles down Pond Street so they can find a location to turn around and finally drive in the eastbound direction they desired to go. Lately, because the westbound traffic has been so consistently heavy like a train that never ends, the opportunity to turn right is most often dangerous, if not impossible.

If you aren’t already aware of it, Messina Drive has frequent large vehicle and truck traffic on it for most of the day. This large vehicle traffic greatly contributes to a significantly higher probability of fatalities at this congested and disorderly intersection.

United Rentals which is located on Messina Drive has their own trucks and trailer rigs that are frequently need to get access to Pond Street and often cannot without undue risk and /or lengthy waits. Additionally, Penske truck rental company is located on Messina Drive. Their large vehicle traffic entering and exiting this intersection further increases the probability for
fatal collisions at this dangerous and unregulated intersection.

There is no excuse for the City of Braintree not to put light in at the intersection of Messina and Pond.

You have been warned of this hazardous traffic condition that could be easily proven to be a case of negligent manslaughter by the City. If and when anyone loses their life at this intersection due to the lack of a traffic light there, the City of Braintree, and it’s traffic department should be held accountable.

Thanks for your future attention on this matter.
