For those interested, there is a meeting tomorrow evening (August 4th) in the 2nd Floor conference room at 1776 Sixth Avenue (city hall) at 5:30pm of the City Council's Parks & Recreation Committee. This will be immediately followed by a meeting of the Troy City Council Public Works committee. If you care about YOUR municipal golf course, be there!

If it means my property and school taxes will be lower, troy can close the whole damn golf course as far as I'm concerned. What % of the city actually goes there and plays golf... less than 1%?

I'm tired of taxes constaly going up in Troy. If it means holding them steady or reducing them... eliminate some more positions.

You obviously aren't a golfer Wilson. If you were, you were have played the course yourself and would fully understand the gem that it is. As it is a challenging course, it attracts some of the best golfers from throughout the Capital District, Southern Vermont & Western Mass. Yet it is still fun enough for an amature like me to play. Although I do not know the precise number of annual golfers, Frear Park Golf Course is one of the most heavily played municipal courses in the Capital District due to its complexities. My guess is that your taxes would be considerably higher if the city was not gaining INCOME (that's what revenue means) from the golf course. The revenue potential of the course covers annual operation with plenty to spare.

There is a director or parks and recreation, his name is GEORGE ROGERS. A former convicted felon that was charged with embezzlement of funds from his former little league team. King Harry sure knows how to hire the losers. Another prime example is the Deputy Mayor DAN CRAWLEY, another piece of work.

I attended the City Council's Parks & Recreation Committee's meeting this evening and neither Mr. Rogers nor Mr. Crawley saw fit to attend to answer questions regarding the upkeep and operations at Frear Park Golf Course although Mayor Tutunjian was there.
I left that meeting feeling as though our city is being run by a group of adolescent boys trying to one up each other while playing the "did too" "did not" game. Although the condition of the sand traps has been improved thanks to some help from DPW employees, this boys club still hasn't figured out WHY it's important to reinvest revenue generated by the golf course back into the golf course. Doesn't surprise me since it seemed to me that none of the members of the council's Parks & Recreation committee are avid golfers. By the way, neither is the Mayor.

I've not met Mr. Rogers or Mr. Crawley so will leave my opinion based solely on their lack of concern shown by their blatant absence from the meeting. Their obligation to the taxpayors and citizens of Troy should trump all other obligations except family ones. And, no, in my mind a baseball game DOESN'T count.

well, there's your answer to the lack of upkeep on the golf course.

If the 2 main people whose responsibility it is to oversee the course, can't be bothered to show up to an occasional public meeting... I guess they can't be bothered to make sure the sand traps are clean and the green grass is actually green at the course.

I do not golf but if I did, I'd probably be pi$$ed too.

Although some work has been done to improve conditions at the Frear Park Golf Course, it is not to the standards that it should be at. Biggest problem is that the current city administration is ignorant as to the true value of the course itself. If you are a golfer, please leave a comment as to what issues you still are seeing on the course. All work that has been done has essentially been done in preparation for the Rens Co Tourney to be held in Sept. Also, our city administration seems to believe that Real Citizens of Troy do not use the golf course. Please comment if you are a Real Citizen of Troy that uses the course (or has in the past) and tell us why.
