People put furniture out on the side of the road for others to take - not just for garbage day.
We put out ours and it was gone within a day; someone stopped to pick it up.

Thats great, but it looks awful and is not allowed. Garbage/unwanted furniture is not suppose to be on the curb more then 24 hours prior to garbage day.
Keep it in your house and put it on Craigs list.
