Why assume that the cats are someone's pets? or that they are allowed to roam by their owners? Silly, to the extreme.

Never mind I fed the cat to my dog.

Put a bell on your cat. And/or have a natural order of things by letting your dogs have at the cats. Anyways, i never thought domestic cats were native or even natural

The obvious answer here is to leave things the way they are. But it wouldn't hurt to start trapping these ferel cats all over the place and "fixing" them one way or the other.

Golly, this is silly in the extreme. Why don't we legislate the activity of cats? I hear they are sneaky and steal the breath of babies, and not to mention that they are aloof and do not seem to give a hoot about their owners. It is very sad when baby birds are left orphans, but it is happening all over the world outside the observation of our friend on Willow Street. Perhaps a lesson in the natural order of things is wanting? Dogs killing cats is not the natural order of things, that is a modern interpretation via anecdotal evidence. It is also safer for cats to be indoors without a doubt, but it is also natural for cats, as is with all creatures, to enjoy a stroll about the planet. Get over yourself.

Cats eat birds. Now that I think about it, I eat birds, too.

The thing is, my cat goes out, finds the birds, chases them and kills them. The birds I eat are raised in windowless factory farms, fed growth hormones and antibiotics, slaughtered by machines, shrink-wrapped and sold in supermarkets.

Frankly, I think that if one of us should stop eating birds, it should be me. In the mean time, my cat should go on doing what nature dictates he should do, and I will be proud every time he leaves me a "gift" at the back door.

Migratory birds are protected by international treaties. It is a Federal offense to kill migratory birds. Not so with cats, so feel free to kill cats that kill migratory birds.

It is a federal offense for a person to kill migratory birds. Not so for a cat.

However, a person who maliciously kills an animal in the state of Connecticut (as you suggest) is subject to the state's animal cruelty laws, which can carry a five-year prison term.

So I strongly recommend members of the SCF community disregard the advice of the previous poster, who obviously has no idea what he/she is talking about.

Wouldn't the reverse apply r.e. having your pet [cat] kill, with malice, a migratory songbird? Where does the "pride" come from in killing another creature?

You're kidding, right? Animals are not required to obey laws. As for the birds ... It is my experience that people barely care about other people, and I would far rather exhaust my own limited reserves of sympathy giving a damn about members of my own species than the various winged and four-legged creatures with whom we share this earth.

I thought this issue was closed? Well, never mind, the wrens, both adults and the three nestlings have now been killed, along with some mourning doves. Thanks; isn't it wonderful! Next year, maybe we can kill all of the remaining birds in East Rock.
