Cedar lane is only one of the many roads that are in desperate need or repai.

This problem is still unresolved.

All the city has done is fill a few holes with material that washes away within a month.

The road is danerous to travel because you have to drtve around these pot holes sometimers in the opposite lane.

However Cedar Lane really needs some attention. I have lived on Cedar Lane for 30 years.
Cedar lane was originally a Stone/tar/& sand road. It was resurfaced with about an inch plus asphalt.
The road is very unsafe with large potholes from Rt 183 past my home at 142 Cedar Lane.

I wrote to the public works department last May about this issue and this was the response i got;

Dear Mr. Nguyen,
Inn response to your request for your road to be paved, please be aware of the following. The City of Torrington has 164 miles of paved roads, of which 42 miles have failed pavement conditions. There are approximately 24 miles of roads in poor condition on the threshold of falling into the failed pavement condition category. The price of asphalt has escalated 150% over the past 15 years. We estimate that the cost to pave all the roads that are in a failing condition to be approximately 25 million dollars. If the City bonded and contracted this work out, the costs would approach 50 million dollars.

The pavement condition on all of the City roads is regularly reviewed and a rated “condition index” is established. This pavement condition index is derived using a comprehensive evaluation of the pavement distresses and deficiencies. The road you are requesting to be paved is not on the paving schedule at this time based on this evaluation.

The City’s paving budget only allows approximately 4 to 5 miles of roads to be paved each year. Thus, we urge the public to have patience with this process as it is both physically and financially impossible to complete all the paving and associated storm drainage work at one time. We assure you that we recognize the condition of the street pavement and we will perform any necessary short term maintenance in the interim.

I would love to see what roads they consider "failing" if cedar lane isn't bad enough. Apparently we all have to sit around and wait till the road washes away, rims get bent on everyone's cars, and accidents happen for any action to happen. Im no genius here but im pretty sure filling potholes 20 times a year every year eventually is going to become more costly than paving a road.

20141111Town Crew is doing a good job filling potholes but how many times a year (for many years) will they have to these very temporary repairs. My experience over 31+ years is - Cedar Lane has no infrastructure and that allows for the continuing deterioration, and the hazardous conditions.

201505 I'm pleased to report the City of Torrington, made a significant effort to fill potholes recently with a sprayed patch material. The road surface has been greatly improved. Thanks to the City Highway Crew for efforts. Town Crew is doing a good job filling potholes but how many times a year (for many years) will they have to these very temporary repairs. My experience over 31+ years is - Cedar Lane has no infrastructure and that allows for the continuing deterioration, and the hazardous conditions.

Road has been paved but my driveway apron and curbing was not repaved all though every other neighbor's was paved and replaced
