Description
Recently, the City installed a bike share on Linden Street with a large adjacent advertising panel in front of East Rock Pharmacy on Orange Street. Several of us -- residents, property owners, and business owners--are concerned that the content of this ad panel is incompatible with the neighborhood and its placement unsafe due to its encroachment onto the sidewalk. While my focus is on the pharmacy ad panel at 763-767 Orange Street, I know that residents of other neighborhoods have concerns about ad panels in their areas, and I believe the conversation about the pharmacy ad panel may have relevance for ad panels installed in other neighborhoods around the City.

I agree with Reporter mgavrin.
There appears to be no oversight or request for feedback before implementation of measures like this, all for a few bucks from pharmaceutical, fast-food places, etc. I am disliking this city administration more and more.
I'm viewing this issue especially in light of Mayor Harp's recent pay raise, and her decision to take 21 city employees for a junket to China to say hello to the officials of a sister-city. That was mind-boggling, especially once I started figuring the amount of money it cost to get everyone there, lodging, food, travel expenses, and of course this was all done on company time -- in other words, the taxpayers were paying these employees' (and mayor harp's) salaries at the same time.
Another thing that burns me up? These parking meters (which half the time don't work right and charge more than they should). I can't tell you how many people have said they don't come into New Haven anymore because the parking fees are so high, and the meters are a mess. They say, Hey, there are plenty of good restaurants in Hamden and Branford etc., and while they know there are great restaurants in New Haven, they no longer feel it's worth their time and money to come into New Haven and battle the meters etc.
Parking should be completely free on all of the streets of New Haven after weekday business hours (5 pm), and free all weekends.
Every New Haven restauranteur and shop owner I speak with feels bitter and angry. And we all know that some of our most beloved restaurants have closed their doors because of these stupid 'initiatives" -- like these ad panels -- that are nickel-and-diming. It's chintzy and tacky and, frankly, embarrassing.
I'm disappointed in Harp and her way of running the city.

Ya'll were begging for the bike share locations. Did you think these bikes were magically going to appear out of thin air? They have to be paid for and insured and repaired. Its either thanks to corporate sponsors, taxes, or your own pocket as a higher price each time you ride. If you have concerns about who the sponsors are, maybe contact the New Haven Bike Share office.
That being said, I think they are downright ugly as well.
