Description

a situation like this in the center of a city and campus that bills itself as walkable is unacceptable . please configure a crosswalk here asap.

wow, WHAT are you talking about? I have walked this daily for 10 years. there ARE crosswalks. unless you are, hmm, going from your personal parking space to your mid-block apartment on the other side of Whitney, in which case jaywalk, it's pretty easy on Whitney (exception being the Grove-Trumbull block in rush hour). or think a teensy bit ahead.

There's a crosswalk at Humphrey and one at Sachem...you were probably a 30 second walk from the Humphrey one and a 2-3 minute walk from Sachem - if you dwadle - when you took this picture. Where are you trying to cross from and to?

Long block with no crosswalk - standard U.S. and international practice would be to have crosswalks much more frequently on a major road with high ped traffic like this.

This block is longer than Church (or Temple) between Elm and Chapel. Both of those stretches have crosswalks. It is common sense if you want a walkable city.

I have seen several pedestrians almost get hit on this block, and the lack of crosswalks also encourages drivers to speed. Can the city look at the situation?

I'm glad some folks can walk around 2-3 minutes to the crosswalk, but many folks don't have the patience (or have trouble walking that far, especially children and the elderly).

The need, for an additional crosswalk, will become even more apparent, when Yale constructs its new laboratory building, on the Peabody parking lot. Why are cars allowed to monopolize all public spaces?
