Unresolved...they plowed a SINGLE LANE on just one side of the street (S) leaving the N side driveways blocked off. Please complete the plowing as there are two neighbors with special needs residents. Thank you.

go to the cityofnewhaven.com and see that they are doing this only for emergency vehicles; they aren't plowing roads until emergency vehicles can get everywhere throughout the city. they are estimating tuesday/wednesday for completed plowed streets

schools are closed tomorrow due to road conditions, that should solve the issue

Are you serious? Read the news, city websites, or leave to see how other streets are. Perhaps the. You will understand d the magnitude of the problem and the process necessary to dig everyone out. Now, go help a neighbor.

Finally a payloader came down the middle of the street last night about 11:30 and completely plowed in my neighbors' cars who spent HOURS digging then out during the day! They came by again this morning following the SAME path! WHY couldn't they plow the SIDE of the street where there were NO cars so that side would be all set. That would give people a chance to then move their cars to that side of the street so that when the plows were ready to come back, the other side of the street would be free of cars. There is NO pattern to the way they are doing it now! All it is doing is making MORE work for evryone!

I understand they are just making access for emergency vehicles right now. I understand the snow amounts are unprecedented. I understand they have to clean the downtown area first, but some common sense might be good to apply here! Now, the news says that we are going to be getting more snow for Wednesday and Thursday! The what?

Should have parked cars in driveways, it appears that all homes here have one. This is an unreasonable expectation of the city. The street is plenty wide enough and cleared for emergency vehicles which, if I'm reading the city website and news articles correctly, is the aim here.

We have seen @ least one emergency vehicle and one city vehicle that could not get through Hervey and had to back up. You need to widen the pathway so that they can get through. The plow that came through over 24 hours ago now, was clearly too narrow. When sending such a narrow plow, you need to go through multiple times to get adequate results. Please do not close this case until this is done and the pathway is widened. Thank you.

Dubious and disappointing, neighbors, but as long as your needs are served, so be it.

I'm with John. There are other options for cars, you didn't need to park in front of your house. I'm sorry, but in a once in a century snow storm, you guys gotta toughen up with this stuff.

We actually shoveled out a car on Everitt yesterday and made sure to put the snow where the plow doesn't come through. Yes, it wasn't perfectly plowed today after the plow came by, but it was literally a 5 minute job to clear out the small amount of snow the plows dropped in.

There are ways to minimize that problem on the residents side, and MANY people out helping. I've seen crews of 6 or more clearing cars--many people who don't even OWN cars are out clearing other peoples cars--so I don't think people need to be kvetching here.

You can kvetch on your facebook or on the phone with your mom.

Cars should be parked in driveways, there is a parking ban, i drive down the side strets everyday in the cove area and people have their cars in the streets all the time , and even in the summer its tough to get by on some of these streets use your driveway

Our streets (yours and mine) are passable for emergency vehicles. Let the crews focus on other streets that are not passable yet. We are not the only city/town, struggling to dig out. Thanks.

The FACT is that had the city begun the plowing on FRIDAY EARLY AFTERNOON and the CONTINUED THROUGH THE STORM, we would NOT be in the mess we are today.

i cannot believe that people are using this platform to complain about the city not plowing as fast and as well as they think the city should have.

the whole point of this site is to draw attention to issues that might be overlooked. a once-in-a-century storm, and you think a) the city isn't aware of how bad the streets are and b) you just want to complain about what they are or are not doing?

yes, we have been conditioned to expect faster results in this day and age... with things like internet speeds & movies out on dvd, but you cannot seriously expect 34 inches of snow to be magically solved. the selfishness displayed on this site is astounding.

I was just down Hervey and saw some homes still need to shovel out (including the one pictured above). Let me know which ones need assistance and I will try to swing by later when my kids take a nap or when my husband gets home (whichever happens first).

I apologize, Linda. The posts and requests strike me as unreasonable and entitled (the taxes comment being the most recent one). That tends to set me off. There are several issues many residents seem to forget ( not realize, not care about, I don't know). If a pay loader and subsequent plow trucks can get through, so can an emergency vehicle (i saw Hervey, it is fine). Cars should not be parked on the road and we should not be driving yet. Our neighborhood is in pristine condition compared to other parts of the city, including downtown. We all need to realize the scope of the problem (just like other CT cities and towns have) and keep apprised of any updates and bans in New Haven. Good luck and peace to you.

First off there is no attitude , I agree taxes are out of sight in this city , believe me I know, This is not your typical Ne snowstorm and people are frustrated and tired , me included. We just need to take a little time and hope the plow crews who have been out straight get into the area as soon as safely possible and with out damaging properties.

It is obvious from the comments here telling people that they should park their cars in their driveways, that you have NO idea what you are talking about. The people who live on Kneeland Rd. on the "high" side of the street from Hervey St. to Upson Ter. have NO driveways! The same goes for MANY of the people in Townsend Ave. from Hervey St. to Upson Ter. The only way they could get their cars off the street is by parking on the private road that runs behind their homes. In that case, they wouldn't be able to get their cars out until SPRING! So maybe before people start slinging barbs, you should know what you're talking about.

I know many people who have stopped using SCF completely during this storm because the level of whinyness is off the charts here.

Hervey looks fine. True about Kneeland that many people don't have driveways, but on Hervey most driveways are blocked by 8 ft of snow b/c of center-lane narrow plowing, but neighbors are indeed helping each other dig out.

All I'm saying is people were told to park on the even numbered side of the street which my neighbors did! I understand that the city was ONLY making ONE lane down the streets for emergency vehicles, BUT they could have plowed closer to the side of the street where there were NO cars instead of blocking everyone in again! All it would have taken was COMMON SENSE!

Please don't make claims that our higher taxes are cause for more attention from plows. Our streets are passable for emergency vehicles. Let the crews focus on other streets that are not passable yet, regardless of what the residents pay in taxes.
