Thank you for looking into this. We (neighbors) have tried to be patient, but the house is vacant and really an eyesore, and we must walk, bike and motor past it daily.
Steve, I went out to look at the property last week. I'm going to reach out to the property owner to determine what their plans are for this property. The issue we're running into is that the property isn't really violating any zoning code ordinances. There isn't any outside junk storage, long grass, illegal parking, etc. It's just an old house that hasn't received any recent improvements.
We do have a recently adopted property maintenance code which states that walls, doors and windows should be free from holes and should be maintained in a professional state of maintenance and repair. When we become aware that a property is falling short of these standards, we typically reach out to the owner to work out a solution. This property has a boarded up window and appears to be missing a small chunk out of the front wall. We will try to get these issues addressed by the owner and encourage them to make other improvements as well. I want to make sure the neighborhood has realistic expectations about this process, though. We'll work with the property owner to make sure the façade is reasonably presentable and weatherproof but the City doesn't have the authority to require a home to be fully renovated.
