  These people are trashing our neighborhood with their constant littering. Living in a van with expired plates that has not moved an inch, car does not work! Making noises at all hours of the night, looks like drug dealing and drug using! I have children who can’t even go outside and play cause of these people

  I’ve already called the Oakland PD, and basically they said if they’re still there after they’ve dispatched someone to check it out, then it means they didn’t find anything illegal. One thing they did specifically say is that if they are obstructing a public sidewalk, then that would be considered illegal. If anything, it’s gotten worse in the last 2 weeks. Pretty soon, no one can walk pass that side of the sidewalk.

  So it’s legal for someone to live in a car that doesn’t move? Basically a homeless encampment is happening in a residential area, right infront of a business across from houses? WOW! Let it not be in the suburbs cause that non working vehicle and all his garbage would of been cleared up!

  I have spoken to the campers. They have consolidated their possessions to clear part of the sidewalk and are trying to fix the van to get it moving. Calling the OPD non emergency number is the only avenue to get them moved. That process will take at least a month.

  It is not a crime to live in your car. They are required to move every 3 days, but the ordnance has changed from moving 100 feet to moving 2-3 feet. OPD is overwhelmed by the homeless camps. I plan on visiting them again today.

  So they use that as an excuse for why they refuse to do anything about it. I wonder how they will feel when the City starts to be sued by all the property owners and renters in the affected areas. The City is basically telling us that certain neighborhoods are where they want to see the homeless parked... tough sh.t for those of us who live and work in those neighborhoods.

  So the van I reported is gone now, but they left all their trash on the side walk. Also, there’s now 2 vans with graffiti parked in that spot with people loitering and littering outside of it.
