The bike lanes on the east side of the Parkway were put in as part of a resurfacing/restriping project whose limits were between the Parkway and L&N Drive. Prior to this, there were no bike lanes at all, so the addition of bike lanes in this section was seen as providing a benefit in this section, where there was nothing before. At such a time as when the section of Drake on the west side of the Parkway is resurfaced, the addition of bike lanes can be considered. The westbound bike lanes, END BIKE LANE signing has been installed to let bicyclists know that the dedicated bike lane is at an end. “Sharrow” markings are not considered to be good practice, per the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO), in their “Urban Bikeway Design Guide”, for roadways with posted speeds of 35 MPH or higher. Drake Avenue has a posted speed of 40 MPH, and is therefore ineligible for sharrow markings.
