Description
The rear upper floor tenant/s at 527 Chapel St. insist on leaving the cover of their Dumpster open at all times so that they can toss their garbage from the second or third floor rear balconies.
The problems with this are:
1. Squirrels are in there every day removing food and dropping it on the ground and on the grounds of neighboring buildings. As a long standing practice, it eventually will attract rats as well.
2. It has now become a fairly regular morning stop for a couple seagulls.
3. The tosser/s miss - often - so the garbage hits the ground. Several months ago, a bag of garbage missed, lodging itself behind the Dumpster for weeks until a worker at the building removed it.
4. Heavy hard things make a startling noise when they hit the metal Dumpster after being thrown from high on the balcony.
5. In the summer the Dumpster's smell with the cover open can be horrendous.
If 527 Chapel tenant/s doesn't stop doing this I am going to formally and very persistently complain to LCI. What kind of person is incapable of taking out the garbage and willing to subject neighbors to this? Everyone else in this neighborhood takes their garbage out.
There are rats in the garbage pails a mere five or six blocks away on the New Haven Green. We don't need them in Wooster Square. Please stop this asap.
This is otherwise a really good building with local landlords with long ties to the neighborhood. I highly doubt they would be thrilled to learn they have tenant/s doing this.

Staff went again today and there was no trash.
See attached photo.
Please contact your property management company about the tenant issue.

There was trash earlier in the day today - I personally saw it. But just as importantly, as your photo shows, the cover is open and always is, year round every day. That's so they can throw garbage from the balcony. Because it is always open it sometimes stinks to the point where you need to close a window, also it gives squirrels easy access. The squirrels are worse than you think -- they drop food everywhere. A bagel on a second-story window sill for example. It's disgusting.
I don't get your response to this at all -- visiting the property is not efficient for catching someone throwing garbage - you'd have to be out there waiting for it to happen. The thing to have done was to talk to the property manager. Neighbors don't want to because it could prompt retaliation from the garbage throwers.
What we would like is really really simple -- we want them to close the cover and stop tossing garbage. Is that so hard?

We did talk to the Management Company and they are aware of this issue. We are to happy to
ask the management to keep this closed but as you know the "tenants" will just reopen the lid.
Also, please follow up with your Management Company you don't have to give your name. You have every right to call them and report that an occupant is throwing garbage. Based on past experiences dealing with this company they take pride in their properties.

I don't think the tenants will just reopen the lid if the manager makes sure the tenants know that it's an issue and they don't allow it.
Thanks for contacting them and I hope the management company knows that this was the complaint- tossing from upper balconies and cover left open to facilitate it.
