The timing of lights on ADR is a mess. Again. Or still. Now I get stopped at the PNC Building, Valley View, and da## near every other light on the road.
We were promised this would be fixed this summer. The issue was closed. It's a mess. The light timing is TERRIBLE.
There are few cars out at this hour. Why can't we have flashing yellow on ADR and flashing red on the feeders until 6 am?
This is ridiculous. It takes almost 8 minutes to go from MVH to 285. It's nuts.

Well, the response is about as slow as the lights on ADY.
We were told that a new "vehicle detection" system was to be installed to control the traffic signals. I'm convinced it's in. When it sees a car coming, it turns the light RED.
Riddle: What traffic light is green on ADY? Answer: the next one.
The City staff has no interest in timing the lights to efficiently move traffic. They'd rather have "road diets" and "traffic calming." They need to go. They can't fathom flashing lights at 4:30 in the morning, even though that would make sense.
Today I was stopped at 5 lights btwn MVH and 285 at 4:40AM. It's just ridiculous.
Get some competent help.

While I understand that the in-pavement detectors were disabled for (or by) the repaving, this does not ring true as a problem since the light timing has been problematic since long before the repaving project began.
Today, I was stopped at almost every light. I don't count anymore. For instance, though, NB on ADR at Valley View, there is a DEDICATED left turn (into the new City Hall) on EVERY CYCLE. This morning, (at 4:35), like most mornings, there are no cars NB at all,, let alone cars that need a dedicated left. Why can't that light flash yellow left, as is the case from MVH to ADR (where there are many more cars)?
As to the "unreliable video detection": that was the story earlier this year, and the promised improvement was due over the summer.
With all dues respect, these are all just excuses. Flash the lights in the wee hours. Set them to trip with in-pavement detectors on the side streets. This is malarkey. It's a major road; mange it.

Meanwhile, please consider that in the late overnight and early hours, flashing lights (yellow on ADR and red on the side streets) would save fuel and time.....

Thank you for your comment. Late night flash operation may seem more efficient, but it is associated with much higher crash rates. There have been a number of traffic engineering studies recently about communities that removed late night flash operation, and each study found a significant safety benefit from doing so.
