Description
To drivers unfamiliar with this intersection, the alignment of lanes from Church (south of Grove) to Whitney (north of Grove) is counterintuitive. The left turn lane on Church is not marked by an overhead sign, and drivers often go straight through to the left lane of Whitney. People often drive from the second lane from the left on Church to the right lane on Whitney. Overhead signs are needed, and so are dotted lane lines through the intersection. (Whitney at Trumbull has dotted lane lines to clarify alignment.)

I agree about the lines on the street, but I think that the overhead signs might be overkill.
I think that part of the problem here is that locals know what lane they are supposed to be in, but often try to jockey for a better position by crossing into the right hand lane. See Chapel Street where is crosses College, there lanes are pretty clearly marked there, but people switch over mid-intersection frequently.
