I have a question....it is not unusual for students to leave their trash cans out on the curbs (or often in the street) for days. I understand it is the responsibility of the landlords to inform their renters about when trash day is, what can and can't be picked up, but having talked with the students in our area, they are clueless. It's also my understanding that City Code requires trash cans to be brought in within 12 hours of trash pick up. If this is the case, why does the city allow the trash cans to sit out for days...and in the case of the Christmas holidays, some have been out since the students left town. I guess I don't understand why there's either not better communication with renters or why the City Code is allowed to be ignored. We brought in the students cans from across the street, and another neighbor did the same with another student renter. Why? We chose to not have to look at them sitting in the street for three weeks. We don't mind being good neighbors but we watched the students drive away for the holiday - AFTER their trash had been picked up - and still they ignored bringing them up to their houses. I'm just curious....thanks!
We do realize that students leaving their trash can out past their pick up date is an issue within the city. Unfortunately, we only have three officers at this time, to patrol the entire city. We do try and educate our renters with welcome bags, walk and talks in correspondence with TAMU, and much of the information is inserted with the utility bill each month.
We do require by city ordinance that cans be pulled in within 12 hours of pick up and we do try and catch them as much as we can.
