Anyone who hasn't lived in the Oakland, or in the Bay area for more than the 10 years, probably is not aware that this is actually a normal winter. As for storm drains not draining the way they should, that's partly because people are littering, and letting garbage fall in the drains. Please help OPW by letting them know as soon as possible when gutters/drains are clogged.

The City of Oakland has a adopt a spot program. Since public works is no long a pro active city agency it up to the public to step up. Weather its litter or leaves and trash on the storm drain if you want it taken care you to do it your self. If there is trash and leaves in the the storm drain contact the call center before it rains. Yes I volunteer to pick up litter and have 5 storm drains I have adopted. Another Pro-Bono public servant.

The drain in question has not been maintained, is a hazard when the weather is dry, floods when wet. Cones in the hole is not an acceptable repair.

Stevan, then all the more reason to make sure that OPW knows about these types of things while the weather is more conducive to taking care of the problem. Once the rain starts, especially when we have a normal winter, the city's public works department gets overwhelmed with calls for service.

I reported this months ago and the city came and dug up the drain and just left cones there without finishing the repair.

It is impossible that this was FIXED on Sunday night.

Dave, they said 1/09/17. That is today, Monday. It's possible they did it this morning.

They added more cones. That is all.

They may have cleaned the gutter and storm drain but the major problem of road damage, gutter and drainage still require attention.

With this weather, don't count on getting any asphalt work done. There needs to be at least 4 straight days of dry, warm weather (65 degrees or warmer), just for the area that needs to be repaired to dry out. After the asphalt is in, it needs at least a 7 full days of warm , dry weather to properly set and adhere.

I don't expect a culvert replacement during this weather, I do expect the repair to be addressed and the issue not closed until it is addressed.

Have you tried calling the Public Works Call Center directly, and ask to speak with someone from the Streets Division who can answer any questions? There are people who are in that office to handle questions.

Thank you for reopening this Steven. As I mentioned I reported this months ago when the weather was fine and the job was never finished. All they did was tear up the street, put up the cones and a couple of those plastic signs. Really disappointing that they did not fix it when I reported it and I also reopened the issue when they tried to close it.
