seems people dont understand that the right hand lane north of the park entrance is a merge lane and the left / center lane is for through traffic

Absolutly, it's funny how many people don't know that and pull into the right lane thinking that is the right of way. So many people speed up in the right lane to overtake you in the left only to find out you are going straight. This is a good one for the paper if they ever wanted to do a story about the 10 most driving misconceptions in Saratoga.

The right hand lane should be stripped appropriately for a lane ending. Most are diagonal white parallel lines going from a white line near the right shoulder to a white line dividing the lanes.

I don't know why they put the Left lane must turn left sign before the left turning lane starts. If they would move that, it would be a lot more clear that the center lane is for through traffic and the right lane must merge.
