Description
Students with lice at Nathan Hale School. School nurse stated there is no policy for informing parents and/or checking all students. Is there a policy? If not, perhaps there should be a notice sent to parents at least before this spreads. Also, a thorough inspection and cleaning of the school might be in order. Discomfort and cost of care are not easy or cheap for anyone, but preventative measures could prevent a lot of headaches (and itches).

New Haven Health Department Public Health Nurses follow guidelines set by American Academy of Pediatricians (AAP), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and CT Department of Public Health (DPH). Standardized inspections of large quantities of children is contrary to these guidelines.
The full-time school nurse who is at Nathan Hale School will work with interventions for the individual children and their families. Educational material will be made available from the nurse. An inspection will be conducted and routine cleaning will follow.
