The situation is getting worse every day. The tent city has become unsanitary and unsafe for those living on the street and the residents who live near by. Please help

Hello all, We have service crews police that area daily for trash/debris, couches, etc... Its an on going battle. I just wanted to assure you that we are combating it on a lower level.
Apologies for the poor typing. I am very upset about this as I live next door to the problem. BUT What are you talking about? There has been absolutely no removal of couches or other furniture. We reported a couch weeks ago that people were passed out on nightly, before the tents moved in and it remained there for weeks and now there is an entire shelter built around it. There are entire living room vignettes set up in other locations that have been there for weeks. Someone just delivered brand new mattresses to one today. Please help.
Someone needs to address this problem at a higher level. These people need help. they need individual care. They need to be taken off the street and given the individual care they need and deserve as citizens of our city in need. We are not talkign about that many people. Surely, there is some city service division in collaboration with some health and hum services non-profit that can work together to solve the problem. This is a health hazard. I don't know how else to express it other than ... every morning when I walk out into my yard, I gag from the smell of human excrement. This cannot be healthy for any of us. We are not living in a poverty stricken third world county. Something must be done. Where are my ever increasing property tax dollars going, if not to improve the quality of life for all citizens of Houston.
Nothing has been resolved. The number of tents and vagrants living under the bridge has doubled within the past month. Countless calls to 311 and hfd has been useless. Illegal fires are lit around the clock, new tents and living room furniture pop up every day. This is beyond frustrating.
This is Cleary a problem that is not being agnowlegded. The city is not using its authority to address this issue. This is our city and I encourage everyone reading this to hold the city accountable. People should be fired or kicked out of office. A fence needs to be added everywhere under 59. This is truly unacceptable.
I called the Constable and the police department yesterday morning when I saw people taking food out of their trucks to feed the homeless. According to the mayor's office they need special permits to do this. On the surface this seems compassionate, but it just puts a "bandaide" on the real issues! It does nothing to help the overwhelming problem that we all have to endure every day. Is anyone listening???
Moving forward, If you are able to capture photos via cell phone camera, we could provide those documented images to the Authority Board showing the issues at hand. I know they are aware of the activities occurring but its just another way to try and combat the endless homeless encampment. Thank you.
Today there were case workers from the city along with Midtown Management District staff taking assessments of each person living in a structure in this area. They are also working on breaking up the "Kush" dealer rings in the area. I am relieved to see their efforts as case by case will be the only way to help. They said that they will be working on this area over the next few weeks. Please continue to report new activities. It also will help to thank those we have reached out to when we see an improvement. This is a very complex issue and I hopeful those in need will get help.
The Houston Police Department’s Narcotics Division will present an educational
outline of the drug, Synthetic Cannabinoids better known as “Kush”.
This presentation will inform the PIP community with the evolution of synthetic cannabinoids,
how its distributed and how the Houston Police Department Narcotics Division
enforces laws with this type of drug.
The meeting will be at 1602 State St. on Tuesday January 10th, 2017 at 7 pm.
Well the efforts are not doing any good, the number of tents continues to increase, even the Manager of Fiesta will tell you that and the problems he has with them. Educating me and the public on Kush is not going to rid the problem. These people do not want help, there's all kinds of facilities to help. You can lead a horse to water but you can't force him to drink. Something needs to be done, it's disgusting, trashy, filthy, unsanitary and it is undoing all the work to clean this area up. Where did they come from? City dump them here to clean up downtown?? How about putting the on a bus going back to where they came from?
I went by today and the problem continues to get worse. Trash is building up. In all respect. I am ashamed of our city for not dealing with this. Again, please do something and stop protecting the homeless. Our society is crumbling because of this politically correct attitude.

My point is proven. I have spent time with them. They need real help, not handouts especially when they are blatantly committing illegal acts. This is not a race issue. That is a whole new issue.
Unfortunately, majority of them don't want help, they just want hand outs. My cousin decided to get off her meds and live on the street. Many times, family tried to help her, facilities tried as well. she didn't want the help. The ones that do want help and want to get on back on their feet WILL seek help. And the developers don't make then homeless, so don't go blaming them.

I shouldn't have selected the "general closing" insert. This issue and others like it are not resolved. I was simply closing out this issues and others like it. We are aware of this problem. We address it many times over at our monthly MMD and MRA meetings.
THAT"S the problem, it's not being addressed, there's all kinds of talk about the problem at all these monthly meetings, but the problem is, it's not being taken care of!! Citizens are tired of it!! 311 is flooded with complaints about the homeless, the mess, the disgust and it's being ignored.
OK. So, yes, you have addressed this problem at these meetings, where you promised solutions by certain dates, only to have those deadlines pass and pushed out again. We are angry, frustrated and disappointed. We are now waiting for the supposed "end of the month" announcement. Please help.
Please contact Cynthia Alvarado for more information on Public Safety Committee. 713-526-7577. I also invite you both to tonight's Civic Positive Interaction Program. 2202 St. Emanuel (832.394.0200) at 7pm. Thanks,
Meetings, meetings, meetings, they are doing nothing. How about moving these transients into your back yard, better yet into Turners back yard and see how many meetings to "discuss" the issue take place before something is finally done......
July 2017 and the encampment is still there. The city of Houston does not care for the well being of the tax paying residents in the area. We are constantly subjected to open acts of prostitution, drug usage, human waste and theft.
The only light I can shed on this issue is we have just requested an additional a 8 cubic yard dumpster to be placed over at the 59 underpass. There will be a total of 3 dumpsters in the area which will be serviced twice a week (Mon & Thurs). I have been instructed per the Mayors office that the final push for Midtown's Homeless Encampment will be towards the middle/end of July 2017. Thanks,
