Thank you for your interest in traffic safety in the City of Raleigh. Staff has conducted a study of this intersection and found that neither eastbound nor westbound Peace Street met cross product threshold limits for the addition of a protected left turn phase. There have been no reported left turning type crashes for the eastbound or the westbound approach during the most recent 12 month study period of the type in which a protected left turn phase may have addressed. Based on this information, the addition of a protected left turn phase is not recommended for eastbound nor westbound Peace Street at Halifax/Salisbury/Wilmington Street at this time. However, the City will look into the current timings to see if more time can be allotted for the Peace Street movements therefore allowing more vehicles to make that turn. There is also a Peace Street/Capital Boulevard Road Project which could change the current traffic volumes. The City will restudy the Peace Street corridor timings a few months after the completion of this project for safety and efficiency.
