There are are a number of "overlays" of administrative jurisdiction in the Intervale and along Intervale Avenue. The Intervale Center often ends up cleaning up garbage that others have dumped in the area. I've seen the pile of what looks like rags and a comforter up by the RR tracks; there has been a book shelf sitting in the first parking area to the right (east) after Intervale Avenue turns to dirt for a week. Often there are old tvs dumped along side the road. This is one of the most publicly
used areas of the city, joggers, gardeners, cross country skiers, dog walkers, bird watchers - never a dull moment but rarely do we see police cars or any other authority in the area. Although we try to police ourselves, this is a community problem.
Hi Fred,
Thanks for the dialogue. You are absolutely correct about the numerous "overlays" of administrative jurisdiction in the Intervale- there is a long and colorful history in this part of the city!
It is my understanding that this parking lot in question is owned by the city, and leased to the Intervale Center. I hope that the city will be able to help us clean up, allowing us to focus our limited resources, time and money towards our mission of sustaining land, farms and people.
Thank you for enjoying the Intervale!
Not sure if this gets back to whoever so kindly responded to my comments regarding the public using the Intervale as a dump! but I'd like to talk more to that respondent as well as work on some remedy. I do not find the police particularly helpful down there, but I know they are stressed and this is not a high priority for them. Talk more??? who thanked me.... someday I'll figure out how to use the seeclickfix to its full potential. Fred
Hi Fred, and anyone who is interested in learning more about and volunteering with the Intervale Center,
Please feel free to drop by our offices during business hours, or email me any time at carolyn@intervale.org Thanks,
Carolyn
We saw Burlington City employees picking up this garbage yesterday, 10/25. Thank you so much for helping us keep the Intervale a welcoming place for residents and visitors!
Thank you again for resolving this issue!
