How does this look in front of the businesses located in this area? It was rather unpleasant to navigate to Sherwin Williams then get out to hear music blasting. Somehow I don't think the owners of the building thought they would have chronic street vendors in front of their paying tenants. What are the regulations? May I open up shop in front of Yale further down the street? This activity discourages customers from frequenting the brick and mortar stores. Is this activity encouraged and permitted? Thank you. Yet another reason to drive to an adjoining town to shop.

While the vendor has a valid permit to sell goods, i highly doubt that he is in compliance with the codes for his tables and displays. According to code, his tables have to be a certain width and on wheels, as well as not having more than a certain number, etc. He is also taking up parking spaces in the lot that could be going to paying customers of the businesses at this location.
Sgt. Wolcheski checked out all the vendors on Whalley for compliance with valid permits and they are all in compliance, which ends the police enforcement. HOWEVER we know that they are not in compliance with code for their tables and displays, and this is where the building dept. has to come in and do enforcement. Because they are understaffed, Whalley is turning into a mini flea market and we can't have that. Suggest that we start an email campaign to Jim Turcio, head of the building dept. to get some inspectors out on the Avenue. His email address is jturcio@newhavenct.gov.
