Thank you for contacting the Department of Public Works, the public works department is not staffed to abate small amount of scattered trash. If you would like to become a volunteer to help keep Oakland clean, please contact Michael Perlmutter at (510) 238-7294. Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Actually this is part of a bigger problem - the picture that I included is just a small part. The corner of Castro and 7th Street is a homeless encampment - The encampment has been reduced by CalTran finally enforcing the no trespassing under the 7th Street underpass. By doing this the homeless encampment has moved to the sidewalk on 7th Street. City of Oakland does not want to enforce the removal of this encampment - and being this encampment being so close to residential the trash piles up. Instead of piling up behind the Caltran fence it is slowly piling up on the side of the local road. This trash could include human feces. As you may have noticed there is no sidewalk on a busy street. I will be happy to do your work that I pay taxes for - if you lower my taxes!
