Reassigned to Parks. Animal Control is aware of the issue and monitors the park occasionally, but the problems obviously occur at times when we are not present.

A fence is needed to create a dog run. It's not really an observable issue.

A dog run is proposed to be added in the area South of the park. Between the park and the garden. Dogs should not be off leash at all and certainly not be "going" on the park.

That park is TOO SMALL for a dog run. Its tiny. Dogs shouldnt be in that park at all because too many people use it and the total amount of urine is enough to knock you out on a hot day. Parks are not supposed to be dog latrines. The city is not required to give people a place for their dog to poop. It kills grass, perennials, trees and smells bad. It turns to ammonia. The poop contains worm larvae that can travel 100 ft away from the original dump, and is active looking for CO2 long after the poop degenerates. Your KID is the CO2 when the poop is near the playground.

Has there been ANY progress on this issue? Last week one of our friends stepped in dog feces on the grass. This morning the local dog owners are giving us the stink-eye for using the playground as intended (for KIDS!).
We can't keep the dog owners out - they need a fenced area to keep their poop to themselves.

It can take 6 months to get a sign made by the city. I would get permission to get them made and paid for by the area people, and ask the city to put them up. Or you could design them even and ask for them to be made by the city. The NO DOG signs are small , and not graphic enough to do the job anywhere. We have one that even I cant see in the Pershing Field playground. Twice I forgot and walked my pup into it before I remembered. In the Fisk playground, the parents tell you very strongly to get out.

we now have a wide selection of No Dogs Allowed signs posted inside and outside the playground. I don't want the dogs to not have a place to run, we just want a fence and maybe the kids and dogs can play at the same time! The kids can't play in the dirt/mud area anyway - so just fence it off.

The SAME issue at the children's playground at Riverview Park in the Heights (Palisade and Bowers). Despite a "No Dogs Allowed" sign on entrance to playground, many nights (after 7 pm) I see people letting their dog(s) run around inside the gated childrens play area. I confronted them one night and they said they pick up the dog crap. When I asked why they let their dogs in there despite No Dogs Allowed sign, they just shrugged their shoulders like "I don't care." Like all dog owners, I am sure they think their dog is the most amazing, special, smart, beautiful thing in the world, but they are dogs and dogs are dirty and @#$% all over stuff and then kids play in there and touch stuff. Take your dogs wherever you want, but at least keep them out of the public kids play area for pete's sake.

City officials, can we get this moving please? There was no official response since last August from any city official, and it doesn't look like this issue is on your radar. It's a fairly wide-spread problem in JC parks: lack of dog runs and poop on the ground.

still nothing. i'm leaving this open until we get a fence so the dogs can play and the kids can play without the assumption that there's dog pee on the play structure.

I'm not closing this until I see progress on the proposed dog run. As long as there is dog waste where our children play this issue remains open. thanks!

Agree - the Heights needs a dog run so pet owners take their dogs their and not in the park playgrounds in either Janet Moore or Riverview Park. Seems like everyone in the world has dogs now in the Heights. Good for them. but keep them out of the playgrounds please.

I never thought I'd see the day, but it's actually happening! Thanks to the neighbors who really made this happen! I hope it's ready for the puppers soon.
