Why is a public road side being used to display advertisements?

Especially when it could be put to far greater use by showing messages about the door zone (protecting cyclists) or crosswalks (protecting pedestrians) in a really, really, really dangerous intersection.

Wasn't this a traffic alert about something going on near the Galleria Mall? I don't think it was advertising shopping.

It displays the website URL for the Galleria.

Thank you for reporting your concern to City of Cambridge via Commonwealth Connect. Select major city events are noted on the e-boards for multiple reasons, but primarily for the anticipated traffic impacts.

For future "major city events" can the electronic sign be placed in a less dangerous stretch of road? In Inman Square we need drivers focused on the road, and what's there right now (like pedestrians and cyclists), not events in the future that may (or may not!) cause traffic impacts in a different part of the City.
