I have come to the conclusion that this Mayoral administration is profoundly NOT interested in dealing with Quality of Life issues in our fair City. Yes, of course, we have substantial issues to deal with and a limited budget, but presenting a welcoming fact to visitors and keeping taxpayers happy deserve a higher priority than those goals are getting lately. Who is going to challenger her?
The Green, New Haven's signature public space, is in a terrible state of disrepair. Missing pieces of the iron fence, rusty and rutting bus shelters, crumbling pavers in front of the churches that are being used as free parking lots by the congregations, filthy plastic trash cans scattered around at will, etc. etc.
Unfortunately, that is the front door to the city that we present to our visitors. It makes me sad being in it.
Amen! New Haven's downtown attracts visitors from all over the region, the state and the world with it superb offerings of restaurants, theaters, pubs, shops and lively street scene. No other city in Connecticut has such an attractive and walkable downtown. We should be proud of it, but --as you say-- it's neglected and shabby in many ways. Doesn't anyone in the Administration or any of the Alders care about this issue? Do any of the leaders check in with SeeClickFix to keep their ear to the ground about issues important to voters-taxpayers-residents?
Hole was repaired about a week after my complaint, which is good, so thank you, Parks Dept. But when I walk through the Green each morning I see work crews and trucks almost every day. How come not one Parks employee reported this big, obvious blemish in the months before I finally said something?
