We have asked the skater shop to remove those off California Drive. These have been a source of aggravation for our community. There is another one right down the street from Peninsula Humane Society off Airport at the corner where the Kite Surfers practice. I see people raiding it all the time even testing to see if clothes are their size.
I spoke to the business/property owner this afternoon. I asked if I could call the number on the boxes and have them removed. She said no, they want them there. Interesting fact - the company that owns the donation boxes pays businesses to have them on their property. I told her if she wants to keep them, she must maintain them. I will continue to follow up.
Imagine if we start allowing businesses to place these eye sore containers all over the city of Burlingame on private property.
It's time to enact new city ordinance in regards to these containers. These containers in no way help the Burlingame community. Thank you!
The donation items on the ground have been removed. I have sent a letter to the property/businesses owners informing them that they must maintain the area around the boxes. I also sent them a Notice of Violation for the graffiti that is on one of the boxes.
