I live across from East Shore Park and frequent it often. I realize we are expressing opinions about the state of the park so I am going to submit mine. I think the park looks great. Much of the grass in East Shore Park is cut where appropriate, such as the soccer and baseball fields, as well as the grass around the playground area, the sections that border Woodward Ave. The section being referred to above is a common area, where the tradition has been to cut. However, this year, the grass has not been cut here, except along the edges of the paths that run around and through it. I assume this is due to the Parks & Rec Dept. prioritizing maintenance, as there are a lot of parks in New Haven and they are short on staffing. Whatever the case may be, I really like it. It's more natural looking and for the first time since living here, my son is interested in this one section of the park. We've been exploring it now that the grass is tall, where as before, it was just a place to walk past to get to the water. East Shore Park is quite large. There is enough green space here to accommodate everyone. I hope they continue the practice of not cutting this one section.

The grass is a health hazard I walk east shore daily and it not fair at all!! The worst year yet. Gross trash everywhere. I live across the completely shock by it's condition.

Historically the fields at East Shore were used to produce hay for the ship yard where it was used as packing material for goods shipped out of New Haven. This year, these fields will be left for hay as a demonstration of this historic use and to serve as an educational experience for New Haven residents.

A buffer of 8-10 feet will be cut and maintained along all the paths to address these safety concerns.
