Check out the corner of Exchange at Ferry where the litter from the GI Package Store is overwhelming. I'm afraid that even putting a trash bin there would do no good. Drunks have notoriously bad aim. However, the liquor store owners sold the stuff and should be out there every morning cleaning up the mess they helped create.

I agree city of new haven cares none. They only care about nicer areas. East rock , downtown , Morris cove east shore.

and yes gi package should be in a way responsible, at least have them clean up.

Gi only cleans their property and they dont care only about making money because they dont have to live here....

If the City of New Haven didn't care there wouldn't be a street sweeping schedule to begin with. You want 24 police surveillance for the drunks and whores? Cough up more tax money. You want increased street sweeping? Cough up more tax money. It's time to stop blaming the city for the neglect of the residents. You don't see trash on the streets of East Rock because the residents don't dump it there. You don't see prostitutes walking the streets of the Annex or Morris Cove because the residents don't allow it there. DPW doesn't dump trash, it cleans up the trash dumped by lazy residents with no shame or concern for their neighbors. The city doesn't put the addicts and prostitutes on the street. They walk in neighborhoods where the neighbors have given in or given up. "If you see something, say something" can be more than an advertising slogan if it's put to use. Another old saying is "the squeaky wheel gets the grease". If you call the police often enough about the same things action will be taken. If more residents had the attitude of "J Graham" above we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I was just going to say alot of what tech said as I was reading this. This is not the city. As I sit on my porch enjoying the great weather the cars driving by throw trash out there windows as if it was no big deal. It is the way people have been raised. In east rock people do not do that, and if they do people on the street pick it up they do not leave it laying there for a street sweeper to come. And yes is some areas like cedar hill and fair haven it seems people are a lot more likely to throw stuff out there window. So there seems to be a lot more trash........so I get were j graham is coming from. I get disgusted tryng to pick up all the crap when not one other person on my street does....suggestion make some flyers in spanish and english....explaining this and asking your neigbors if they can at least pick the trash up that is just in front of were they live (on sidewalks and in the street). Or just knock on some door with a few other people and talk to them about it.

I get it tech. Understood , this side of the city has great people that care , but many youth and careless residents , it's not city of new haven fault , it's just the little people like myself that upkeep our property's , and street, really stresses me to see surrounding streets littered and that will never change , unless somehow all residents do their part with some guidance like a neighborhood cleaning crew set up by example :the alderman and his supporters along with caring ppl like many of us.

Thanks for all of your feedback during the 2016 Street Sweeping Season which operated from April-November. Since the weather so far has been somewhat mild, we have been able to sweep extra along arterial locations. Our seasonal focus now shifts to snow so we are closing this category.
