Description

2nd street is a one-way street with traffic from East to West. There is a road sign at T (Warren & 2nd) that states 2nd St is 'One Way'. This signage is being repeatedly ignored and is inadequate for the growing amounts of auto traffic in the area.

Numerous cars take right turns to get into the Shoprite parking complex. In doing so, they have to go "wrong way" on 2nd street for approximately a half-a-block before making a left into the Shoprite parking lot.

This behavior has become increasingly egregious and dangerous with the combination of on-going construction in the area (and many workers parking in the lot) and the completion of additional building in the Powerhouse District / Grove Street (where many residents now live).

The reckless driving is endangering pedestrians who are walking from the Light Rail toward Warren or from Warren Street / 2nd Street toward the light rail.

Remediation measures include increased signage at the location, specifically stating LEFT TURNS ONLY and opportunities for increased enforcement during off-hours (night, weekends) when pedestrians are present and driver's are "more confident" to be able to go the wrong way on 2nd street for "just a little bit".

The situation is quite literally a terrible accident waiting to happen (hit pedestrian, death, etc.).
