Gaping hole in roof with squirrels going in and out. The house was re tagged in 2008 and has not been occupied since. Time to add it to the demolition list??▶Open
Taxes are paid current. City has put monitoring fees on property. This is one of 6 properties Eric Bergen owns in Lansing. Looks like he is spouse of MSU President Simon.? Money should not be an issue.............
Is there a way to force the owner to repair this order have to wait until the squirrels and raccoons start using the front door to enter and leave? We have worked too hard to clean this block up to have this exist for over 4 months.
This property is going before the Demo Board in January. After that it comes to Council. Please feel free to contact me on my City email at carol.wood@lansingmi.gov
Irregardless of who owns this, something needs to be done. Nothing has changed. Maybe we will get enough snow this winter to finally collapse the roof and then the city will do something about it.
No change and no progress in the resolution of this problem. The only thing that has changed is the size of the hole in the roof - it just keeps growing.
Holes are supposed to work just like that lantinori25. See-Click-Fix isn't supposed to just have an item sit and ignored though. Is this issue being addressed any more?
Carol Wood, is there an email to contact Code Compliance?
The only thing I have seen code compliance do about this problem is make sure the property is secure. Hole is still there along with critters living in the house.
Is there a statute of limitations on how long a house can remain red tagged without the city taking action on the matter? 831 N Chestnut has been red tagged for 10 continual years now and with a gaping hole in the roof for 2+ years. Critters are the only occupants.
Baby squirrels are using the rafters as a jungle gym- wish I could say it is cute but the place has to full of mold, animal feces, and just a general health hazard after 2 plus years of this.
The gutter on the south side of the house is beginning to fall off and there is vegetation growing through the hole in the roof. The whole place is looking bad.
I’m not sure whether the bigger problem is the ever deteriorating condition of the roof and the house in general or lack of action on this problem for over 2 years by the City of Lansing. It sucks either way when we work so hard to maintain our block to have the city leave us hanging here. By the way, my neighbor’s dog got sprayed by a skunk last night who probably lives on that house or under it.
If we get lucky, maybe we will get enough snow this winter to collapse the rest of the roof and then the city will finally do something about it. The owners apparently won’t.
The house was broken into sometime between 4pm Thanksgiving Day and 8am Friday November 23, 2018. I called LPD and they came out and checked it out. Code Compliance boarded both the front and back doors and I believe one side window. From what I can see on the City Assessor's page, the owner is a 1 1/2 years behind on his property taxes. Can we please get something done about this blighted house???
