The construction speed limit is 45 MPH through the Construction Zone on the Twin Bridges.
However, each time I have driven along this stretch where the lanes are reduced from 6 lanes down to 2 lanes, I have seen multiple drivers SPEEDING through the work zone at approximately 70-75 MPH!
I don't think there are even any "SPEEDING FINES DOUBLED FOR SPEEDING IN WORK ZONES" signs at this construction site!
I always reduce my speed at work zones because they are so dangerous. But when I do, the drivers behind me tailgate and flash their high beams, and are just very agressive and have road rage! This is unacceptable, and these menacing drivers need to be punished!!!
I also haven't seen any POLICE VEHICLES patrolling the Construction Zone, and their absence allows angry, discourteous, impatient drivers to get away with SPEEDING and someone is going to get killed!
I think the construction zone speed limit should be reduced EVEN FURTHER, down to 35MPH in this harrowing, dangerous area, where NUMEROUS fatalities take place on a regular basis!!!

Dozens of times each week, the traffic reports go: "There's an accident near the Twin Bridges" "Huge accident just north of the Twin Bridges" "Major slowdowns due to a crash between Exit 7 and the Twin Bridges"! I mean, what's the deal here? Why is that particular area always the scene of numerous accidents all the time? Because people are constantly speeding and weaving!
It never fails-- when headed northbound between Exits 4 and 5, traffic in the right lanes comes to a screeching halt, and then up a little further after Exit 7, the LEFT two lanes comes to a screeching halt! Doesn't anybody observe this traffic phenomenon? Why do the right lanes always stop moving near one exit, and then the left lanes stop moving near the next?
It's because people WEAVE, TAILGATE, and SPEED in this area! And then add this to that slight turn in the highway just before the bridge, and the "optical illusion" always talked about up in that area, and in short, you get a BLOODBATH virtually every week!
Throw in the occasional Quebec tractor-trailer driver not paying attention, who then crashes and wipes out 6 lanes of traffic, or Aunt Tillie from Connecticut going 28MPH in the left lane, and you'll see why that section can quickly become the scene of chaos, mayhem, and distruction.
