You're absolutely right--the one that is there is to protect the building.
And it would be sensible to put another one out a foot or so to ensure a sufficient line of sight between drivers and the pedestrians--who don't typically expect cars to pop out on the left hand side of a road or divided drive*--to prevent collisions.
*Yep, driving on the right is conventional in the US and is what everyone expects, even on private drives. Drive-up windows that necessitate left-hand driving are too few to change that very normal expectation.
Dude. That's the point. Most of us don't have your exhaustive knowledge of where bank drive-up exits are or your excellent "common sense." That's not going to change :)
Hi all. Thank you for these comments to promote pedestrian safety. This location is outside the boundaries of the Marketplace District. I've notified the bank manager for the Merchants Bank branch and will encourage them to join SeeClickFix. Best to you. Ron Redmond, 802-238-5588 rredmond@burlingtonvt.gov.
I would just assume that cars drive through there, regardless of the exact location of the exit. If I dont want to be hit by a car then Ill look out for them. Natural selection, common sense, desire to not get hurt, etc.
I notified the property owner when this complaint was first posted. I will ask Code Enforcement if the city has any recourse on private property. Ron Redmond 802-238-5598
