Description

Tonight, for the second time in a week, there was a Yale hockey game, and there was absolutely no enforcement of parking regulations. Mansfield Street resident-only parking was jammed with violators, and residents could not park in their own neighborhood. Compton Street had cars parked on the prohibited side of the street, half-on and half-on the sidewalk. No enforcement whatsoever. The city looks the other way. A major, planned event that everyone knows will bring in a large number of people and cars, and absolutely no attempt to handle the impact on the neighborhood.
No tickets, no towing. We are tired of selective enforcement of parking in this city. If you are a minute over on a meter downtown you get ticketed, but we have to demand enforcement in our neighborhood. Yale is also responsible. They should be required to provide parking for ticket holders if they are going to hold large events. With construction of the new residential colleges, this will be a more frequent problem, and Yale will do nothing to mitigate the impact on the neighborhood. They have constructed no additional parking for the new dorms, and obviously just plan on the city continuing its past practice of ignoring problems that are inconvenient to Yale. This is another example of New Haven failing int job of providing a ¨liveable city".
We appreciate that a patrol car responded to our calls to at least ticket the cars that were parked half up on the sidewalk on the no-parking side of the street, but the police did not have the time to ticket the other hundred cars that should have been ticketed.
