Our inspector has initiated a public nuisance case with a deadline of September 10. The inspector will follow up until the issue is cleared.

The nuisance abatement proces works in this way: The property owner has until the deadline to resolve the issue. If they fail to do so the inspector revisits the issue and sends a second notice of violation along with additional fines and fees. If the property owner does not respond, the issue is referred for abatement, which involves the City Council approving the assessment of the costs of abatement to the property owner and authorizes a lien be placed on the property if that bill is not paid. Once the Council has acted our contractor does the work and we bill the property owner. Sometimes this takes a bit of time but the inspector is on the case and will continue to follow up to resolve the problem.

It has now been two and a half weeks since the first deadline to cut the grass and weeds and to edge the sidewalk and curbing as requested. The work still has not been done. Can you share the status of this work request?

Someone did come today to cut the grass and weeds. However, the situation is just as bad as it was before today (and perhaps a little worse). All the grass and weed debris is now piled on the sidewalk so now there is even less space to walk than before. No edging was done on the sidewalk or at the curb. Thus in addition to the sidewalk being almost impassable, the gutter is still full of overgrown grass which inhibits the flow of water to the drain. I am enclosing a picture that I took tonight. I do not, nor do I think you will, consider this case CLOSED.

We aren't done yet! Please give our crews time to complete the clean-up. This case went to abatement and was cleared by our Streets Department. They are coming back to complete the job. I will leave this one open until they've finished.
