I know the intersection good. I always stop at thar intersection when I see the red. At times people come up behind me and start beeping their horn., Then get @#$% off when I open my window and point to the sign. I agree its a very dangerous intersection and something should be done.

I come down the same ramp myself and constantly put up with antics from the drivers behind me that want me to make the right on red against the posted sign. And I do the same thing: open my window and point to the sign. The traffic signal should be changed to a red/green arrow with signage instead of a regular red light.

As a practical matter, pedestrians are best advised to not attempt to cross from either corner on the east side of Orange St @ Trumbull St. The distance is too far to cross safely and as others have pointed out there has been no effective way to enforce the right turn policy coming off the ramp from the east. Far easier - and safer - for pedestrians to simply cross to the west side of Orange and proceed. People may not like the inconvenience this poses, but this is an effective solution if safety is the primary objective in an environment characterized by low levels of enforcement.

I disagree with your proposal, Chiphoyt. You are evidently not a pedestrian, but a driver who thinks you have the first priority.. but it is pedestrians that always have the right of way,, and it is the motor vehicle whose obligation it is to consider the pedestrians. The intersection needs major work all around, the walk lights don't work, the traffic lights can't be seen from all directions.. the drivers think they rule the world and that each one of them has to get where s/he is going and f* everybody else. It's not only people that get hit by cars, but other cars and bikes get hit by cars too.
