It's been quite some time since this was originally reported. I've spoken to arborist as well and things were looking up for a time. Five years later (wow, I can't believe it was that long ago!), nothing has happened. This is disappointing to say the least. What does one have to do in Alexandria to get something attended to?

I'll be happy to be part of a water crew for the trees planted.

Does anyone know if there a place to learn more about tree planting by the City of Alexandria or someone specific we should be talking to?

The city arborist is open minded and we had a volunteer watering crew ready. The problem we had was that these trees are behind the hotels and there's no hose long enough to reach. We can take jugs out there, but with multiple gallons per tree needed each week, that's a lot of jugs. We talked to the hotels and they seemed amenable to allowing us to borrow their hoses. We offered that up to the city, but still got nowhere. On this issue, the city has not been terribly responsive to say the least.

Trees have been planted. Let's hope the spring and summer is kind to them and that our watering crews can keep them alive!
