Can we get some help from the people we pay very well to make and enforce the laws?
Littering in New Have is a $159 offense. The city needs money to fill potholes and keep kids in school and out of trouble. Let's get after the litterbugs (too kind a word; maybe should be litterpigs).
And can we please all start speaking up about this and making enough noise so that it gets attention and action from the office of Mayor Toni Harp?
Mayor, where are you? You'll make a lot of people happy if you start a clean up New Haven campaign, raise money from the fines to be used for playgrounds or homeless shelters.
Just please take some action on the huge amount of filth here. And when you do so, make a big deal of it -- announce it, spread the word, revel in the results.
The problem has not been solved, nor even acknowledged by the cities of New Haven and Hamden. For at least two months now there has been NO trash barrel on top of East Rock, even if visitors were willing to use it.
And the school year is about to begin. WHERE IS YOUR "CLEAN CITY" CAMPAIGN MAYOR HARP? Now is the time to get it programmed into the school schedules, especially for the younger kids where MAYBE we can break this vicious cycle of littering as acceptable behavior. When is the round table brainstorming session with city, parks, and concerned citizens going to materialize?? We are sick of the excuses and the delays. New Haven should be embarrassed by the extent to which its parks are being trashed and should be far more proactive in addressing the problem. #GSCIA? With public spaces treated like this?? You're joking...
FYI. This just came my way for anyone interested in attending.

The Parks Department is trying to better manage SCF issues and are closing old issues. While we know illegal dumping and litter continue to be a problem, these specific instances should have been addressed. Please continue to report these litter bugs in new posts with as much detail as possible including trails, streets or other "landmarks" to help us find more quickly.
