Whole bricks began peeling free from the parapet wall atop the roof as the wall itself began to crumble and twist free from the brick face yesterday on the Chapel Street sidewalk at Orange. Assuming the city / owners had inspectors and engineers in who condemned the structure.

Another hole in that sad-looking block. In 1995, the nearby Phoenix Building, designed by Henry Austin, was demolished. In 2007 a fire destroyed the Kresge building and connecting structures reaching back to Center Street. With all the work that went into re-creating the Ninth Square, I hope a savvy developer sees a great opportunity here--and soon.

It won't look like a hole. It will look like a space, and that block doesn't look so sad.. not as sad as some. The question is, as you say, will the City see it as an opportunity for development? Or will her'oner see it at all?

Looks like the building is fully down.

Isnt it on Orange and Chapel. The building on the corner of State and Chapel houses seversl businesses including Subway sandwhich shop.
