I'd like cops to pull over kids riding against traffic and instruct them that you should ride on the right. I'd like the department of traffic and parking to post signs saying "ride on the right." I'd like schools and programs to teach bike safety and hand out reflectors. And, I'd like to make other drivers aware of this hazard and possibly save some stupid kid's life. Is that good enough to merit using your site, XYZ?

Fine, but if you want it to get to the proper officials you would be better off if you phoned the police district manager for the area. Not that is wrong to post to alert other but I do not think the police actively monitor this site.

Great post. Bike safety is a long standing issue that the city has so far failed to adequately address. Posts like this are invaluable in starting a community dialogue, which often, as experience shows, leads to substantive changes in public policy. We have the same issue downtown with the kids riding bikes in and out of traffic. In fact, on the walk home from work today @ 5pm on Temple Street near Chapel, a pack of kids on bikes, wrong way in traffic, taking up a big part of the road, almost caused multiple car accidents because as cars tried to turn left onto Temple from Chapel - they had to hit their brakes to avoid hitting the kids - who were in the middle of the road -- and then the cars behind them had to stop short and there was also potential for a chain effect accident.. this is a daily issue downtown near the Green..kids on bikes in and out of traffic...I've lived downtown for over 10 years and I never remember this being such an issue, but this year it's rampant.

Does anyone know if it's ignorance or malice? Is there a "tough guy" benefit to riding into traffic or something?

It's both the bored and powerless as well as the menacing and lawless who do this.
