Although I agree with this, I'm wondering why the last comment says 14 Gerry Street, which is my address, but I did not make the comment.

Please clarify this request and supply more information.

Problem time during the day – Example: 5 – 7 AM

Direction of travel - Example: Vehicles Southbound on Main Street turn left heading eastbound on Gerry Street and turn right onto Pine Street.

Narrowing down the time of day and direction of travel will aid the Department in resolving this issue faster. It will also enable proper notification of the Police Department for support.

I notice it mostly in the morning during rush hour, especially when school is in session going down Gerry from Pine to Main Street and they fly down the street.

It's outrageous that we cannot accommodate our residents safety and quality of life. Let's place some restrictions during peak travel periods.

Putting restrictions on the use of side streets other than Summer Street would not be practical or fair. Summer Street is already backed up from Pond Street all the way to Main Street at times. Not allowing cars to get off of that stretch of road and find alternative routes does not make sense. We live in a very busy corner of town and I am sure everybody would like to get the cars off their road. Forcing all cars to remain on Summer Street, especially with the presence of the South School, would not accommodate the safety of the residents there either.

The Department of Public Works does not have the authority to place restrictions on street usage as suggested. A request to the Police Department will be made to patrol the area during the morning.

The traffic signal timing is balanced between Summer, Marble and Main Street to provide the best flow possible during congestion. Increasing green signal timing on Summer Street would result in longer delays on Main and Marble Street. This may also have a negative impact on Gerry Street as vehicles traveling Southbound on Main Street may turn onto Gerry heading east to avoid the light.

At this time it is suggested a written letter be sent to the Town Administrator with the requested changes so they can be properly approved and implemented.

I'm not as concerned with people driving down our street as I am about how fast they fly down it. We have kids on our street, the funeral home and the community center and it's a safety issue for me. I've almost gotten hit several times pulling out of my driveway because of how they drive. It's a pretty short side street and it's amazing how fast they go. Not only are they taking short cuts but the see it as a faster route to Main Street. It's still a residential street and the safety of the residents should be considered.

You are right. Cars drive much too fast on these side streets. Summer St can get like a drag strip. Unfortunately the volume of traffic is probably not going to diminish any time soon. There are also so many cars that park on the street / sidewalk on that stretch of road it must be tough getting out of your driveway. A good option might be a speed bump or two on that stretch. Another option would be to put a very restrictive speed limit on that short stretch of road. Say 10mph. a few mornings of the police monitoring that speed and handing out tickets, the word would get out quickly and I'm sure things will slow down. Unfortunately a lot of this depends on police presence. They do a great job but have a lot of ground to cover throughout the town.
