Has anyone posted this found bike to local email and news groups in the area? Might be nice to be sure this is known about.by a large group so that who ever owns this obviously stolen bike might come claim it. Be nice to do that before the city removes it.
As a board member of Bike East Bay, I've checked with several who have access to databases, etc. and will continue to monitor. I'd agree with you that it's "obviously stolen," but it's been there for 3 weeks with a weak cable and yet hasn't been removed. Might actually benefit the owner if it's removed by the city before someone simply comes along and cuts the cable. If you have access to local email groups, please post it.
No matches in the Bike Index stolen bikes database. If the police remove it they will check it against any stolen bike reports they have received as well, and then auction it off if it is hasn't been claimed within a few months.
