Absolutely. I agree. This is such a great spot, would be great for walks and kids playing, but it's marred by scofflaws and speeders.

For whatever reason Dover St is one of the only ones I can think of in Fair Haven that is newly paved from beginning to end (Clinton to Ferry). I'm not complaining about that, it's just it's an obvious great place to speed for anybody looking to do so. NHPD has certain policies which the average citizen would probably nice be in agreement with if we knew about it. One of them is not pursuing bikers that race around the streets with impunity. I KNOW from speaking to certain police officers this is a policy of the former Chief that is carried over with the new Chief - their names escape me this moment. Another is probably running radar traps to catch speeders and yet another is the use of unmarked police cars.

Dover St. needs speed bumps. Period.

more dirts bikes right now. One just caused a car accident at the intersection of Grafton and Clinton and while the cops are attending to the car accident victims said a-hole is cruising around on his bike on the wrong side of clinton doing wheelies, the police have got to stop this!!!

Go to the City of New Haven, Engineering webpage and click on the Complete Streets link in the left hand column. Read through the manual first to get an idea of the program and then fill out a request form.

there was an incident the other night when me and my mom were walking to chatham park. there was a dirt bike speeding down clinton avenue . then all of a sudden two cop cars chased him, he jumped off the bike, and ran towards the park but they stopped him at the corner. he could have crashed into somebody or a car the way he was driving. it needs to stop.

On Thursday, May 24th, I was threatened and assualted by a neighbor for reporting incidents of speeding and racing cars to NHPD. I was told if I report what happened, I will have to move from my home.

At some point everyone is going to have to ask themselves if the police are really too busy to enforce quality of life issues in this town. I live near you, I dont hear sirens 24/7. I do hear dirt bike racing around, I do hear cars racing around(all in front of peoples homes), I do see people doubling the speed limit daily and the one thing I dont see is people getting pulled over. Is it the fact that the jails are too full for the police to take action?

I hope you officially reported your neighbor, I do hear that the police will do something about threats and assaults.

I did NOT report the incident. The only thing injured was my pride. I would be just as happy if this person and his friends just faded away as I'm sure they will, being renters who probably don't pay rent regularly. The problems continue as evidenced by the black "burnout" marks all over the street on the blacktop. I completely agree with "Lexington Ave". I don't condone the police "cracking heads", but I think that is the only language these people speak. We need appropriate action taken here!

Hello, this issue just came to our department, but it is a year old. Does this issue still exist? I see a comment was made about submitting through "Complete Streets". Does anyone know if a request has been submitted?

Y E S regarding the issue still exists, to a LESSER degree about racing vehicles, NO regarding the "characters" who tormented detour01 and the general neighborhood since they abandoned this neighborhood & landlord! and, no idea if "a request has been submitted"

You'll also see a design manual. You do not actually have to design anything. Think of it as a showcase of the different kinds of traffic calming measures that can be done. The more residents that are behind a "Complete Streets" request the better. By law, it has to be approved by a resource committee before Engineering is allow to work on it. Feel free to call into engineering or post here if you have any questions.
