Firebombed?! What does that mean? Did you call the police? Do you know who the car belongs to?

The owner recently lived in the house, correct? Did he recently move? Have you tried speaking with him directly? It seems like this issue should be forwarded to the police, not SCF. It seems as if the NHPD is well aware of the goings on at this particular residence and calls to them seem to be handled expediently.

Firebombed as in a man apparently threw a flammable liquid onto the car, ignited the liquid, causing a loud explosion which covered the front of the car in flames. The man then ran towards Howard Ave.
The police and fire department both arrived on the scene.
The tenants, at this address, have been nothing but trouble.
Arson squad and police are investigating.

wow! I have known of such things before.. the cars I've known before were targeted because of some kind of grudge, beef, they had with the owner. We found out who it was, but the police did nothing. We let the person's family know that we knew what was going on and that we were not going to tolerate it. They moved a few months later. It takes community effort.. you, the police the block watch, and the alderperson to do this..

Definitely worth a call to the landlord. This time a car, which the landlord does not have personal stake in.... Hopefully it doesn't escalate to the landlord's house.

I would not risk a personal call to the landlord, but use the police department and proper authorities. Number one.. it is not evident from the info given, that the landlord had anything to do with this. Also, this is a criminal matter, and destructive, and the people involved might be dangerous.

Are the police required to contact the owner of the house after a destructive event?

The owner of a property only has to be contacted if his property is involved. If it's just some car in the street then no.

The landlord of this property does ot care who he rents to as long as he has tenants. He lives there part time. When he is on the property "things" are somewhat calm. The minute he is gone is when all the nonsense starts. First, it is a small 2 bedroom (really a 1 bedroom with a small dining room) apt that has 2 adults and a baby supposedly as tenants. However, there is generally 5 adults there at any given time and in various stages of drunkness or being stoned. (Feel sorry for the child - whose grand mother lives on the 3rd floor. From what I have been told by neighbors the grandchild spend most of her time with her grandmother - mostly due to the disruptive/destructive behavior on the first floor). Second, these people are dangerous. They continuously drag race up/down the street. If you ask them to slow down they will swear in your face or threaten you. The police have been called numerous times! However, by the time they show up the disruptive behavior is over. People on south Water Street are afraid of this group. They behave like "thugs" they come and go all hours of the night. Often congregating on the boat ramp smoking pot and then urinating all over the side to the Sound School's storage shed. The "fire bomb" was most likely deliberate. The persons involved were most likely trying to scam the insurance company for money. Third, the police and arson squad did arrive on scene and an investigation is ongoing. Only one neighbor is willing to come forward as a witness. This neighbor is very brave. Others fear for their families if they come forward. The landlord needs assistance or coaching on how to find/screen tenants. He has had personal issues and family issues that keep him from having the time to make proper judgement when it comes to tenants. Lastly, one of the people possibly involved in the fire bombing of the car comes by at 8am every Sunday morning and parks across from the hous opens his car door and blasts his car stereo. When he has been asked to turn it down he laughs and turns it even louder. When people ask again a "gang" of people emerge from the apartment and start yelling obscenities at the person or persons. The person that is cranking the stereo will look right at you and say "watch ya gonna do about it?" Again, the police get called and take an hour to arrive...even then they will only come if someone agrees to speak to an office..so if the police arrive they will come right to the door of the person that called so that the "thugs" can see who called it it in..It is a very frightening, volitile, and frustrating situation for the residents of South Water Street. Even attempts to appeal to the landlord result in a verbal attack from him..he will tell you that you are a "busy-body and mind your own damn business" or "when I am here they do not create any trouble so I am not going to say anything because I have not heard nor witnessed what you are claiming"

Talking to some of my immediate neighbors, they all agree that there has been an uptick in criminal activity. I am totally convinced that THIS is why the NH Police Dept no longer issues daily police logs to neighborhood block watches. They don't want residents to know how bad things REALLY have become. The New Haven Independent finally removed the "Crime Log" tab from the top of their home page--because even they have not had access to police reports since last September.

Its an election year. If Harp does nothing now she never will.

Harp will raise taxes (after not paying her million dollar tax bill), then, when she's through ripping off the taxpayers, she'll retire on her bloated state and city pensions to Florida, just like Destefano.
She's as crooked and useless as the rest of the democrats in this welfare dump of a city.

Can aomeone do a serious study of NHPD response time? The anecdotal evidence is very disturbing. Also, they need to figure out a way to not publicly identify the person who calls dispatch. Its dangerous and it disincentivizes calling if you fear for retaliation.

Fair Havener,, 'could' and 'would' are different, as are 'need' and 'will'. I have also experienced that police insist on coming to my door to get the complaint and the perps see whose door the police go to. It's sad but I have lost hope for anything positive to be done while Toni Harp is in office, and while Esserman is top cop, and while Hartman and Cavaliere are sitting in important chairs.

Whenever I've called NHPD dispatch they ask "Do you want to give your name?" (if it's something like dirtbikes I usually say "yes"; if drug dealing, etc. I usually say "No".) Then they ask "Do you want an officer to stop by your house?" (and usually I say "No"--but if it's something that I think will NOT result in retaliation, then I say "Yes" because it's a good idea for the police to get to know you. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but nearly every day a patrol car parks in front of my house while the officer fills reports, etc. on his/her laptop. I often go over and suggest to them that it's a great place to park and spend the rest of their shift heh heh...)
